Campaign – Aldi
The Palm Oil Action Group’s Current Aldi Campaign
The Palm Oil Action Group’s current direct action campaign targets Aldi Supermarkets. We are asking Aldi to sign up to a responsible palm oil policy: labelling of palm oil and palm oil derivatives on all products and using only 100%segregated Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO).
Why Aldi? Aldi has other great policies, like no artificial colourings, sustainably caught fish and using FSC paper. In addition Aldi is gaining market share from Coles and Woolworths. So Aldi has the will to make good policies and, if we can get Aldi to sign up to a 100% segregated Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) policy, we can push Coles and Woolworths to do the same.
How can I get involved?
First and foremost the Palm Oil Action Group needs your help to keep this campaign running. We have recently almost come to the end of our funds and without help the campaign won’t be able to continue. Every donation helps – even just $5 – so please, if you like what we are doing, and you like this campaign, then donate through PayPal to keep us and the campaign going.
Getting involved with the direct protesting is also really rewarding, so if you have the time, get involved!
We are looking for people to run actions in their local area and also for people to volunteer at actions on the day. Email us and we’ll get in contact.
And we also need people around Australia to support the actions by having protest postcards signed. Email us with your name and address and we’ll send you some postcards to have signed by your friends and family.
Finally, like us on Facebook to follow along with the campaign and share with all your friends – the best way to ensure change is to spread the word and spread the awareness.
And join our mailing list to keep updated.
What’s happened so far?
The campaign was launched in The Northern Rivers, NSW, in December 2013, and takes the form of protest stalls set up outside Aldi where consumers are invited to sign special protest postcards outlining The Palm Oil Action Group’s requests. These stalls also have the important job of raising consumer awareness about this issue.
So far two actions have been run and over 700 postcards collected, with the aim being to run more of these actions throughout NSW, QLD and VIC and to collect over 3,000 postcards.
Already the campaign has had great results – Aldi has said that it will raise the issue of segregated CSPO with its international business, although we are still awaiting a response on the issue of labeling.
We’ve had great media response to the campaign – support both on the local news and through the local papers. Here’s a taste of the media we have received so far.
